Background of the Study

Workplace stress is a pervasive issue affecting employees across various industries, including the banking sector. It refers to the psychological and physical strain experienced by employees due to various work-related factors such as job demands, work environment, workload, and interpersonal conflicts (Oluwaseun & Afolabi, 2024). In the banking industry, employees are often faced with high expectations, stringent performance targets, and a fast-paced work environment, which contribute significantly to stress.

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), with its operations in Plateau State, is no exception to these stressors. As the banking industry continues to evolve with technological advancements and customer expectations, the stress levels among employees are rising. However, managing workplace stress is essential for employee well-being, productivity, and retention. Effective coping mechanisms, such as stress management programs, organizational support, and work-life balance initiatives, play an important role in mitigating the effects of stress (Ajibade & Akinwumi, 2023). This review aims to explore the types of workplace stress experienced by employees of GTBank in Plateau State and evaluate the effectiveness of the coping mechanisms available to them.

Statement of the Problem
